We are currently offering a career-defining opportunity for a vibrant, customer-focused individual to join us as a Bank Teller. Absa Junior Bank Teller 2025 In this frontline role, you will serve as the face of Absa to our customers—handling their day-to-day banking needs while ensuring a professional and efficient service experience.


Purpose of the Role

As a Bank Teller, you will be responsible for processing a variety of banking transactions efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with all internal processes and regulatory standards. You will contribute to enhancing customer satisfaction, building loyalty, and identifying opportunities for business growth.


Key Responsibilities

Cash Handling and Transaction Processing:

  • Manage your cash float daily, including requesting replenishments when necessary.

  • Dispense and accept cash, cheques, and other banking instruments to and from customers.

  • Conduct accurate cheque validations, account verifications, and ID checks in line with risk protocols. Absa Junior Bank Teller 2025

  • Use teller systems to capture, authorize, and finalize all customer transactions.

  • Reconcile your cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift, and prepare detailed reconciliation reports.

  • Assist in maintaining audit trails for financial and compliance reviews.

Customer Engagement and Support:

  • Deliver friendly, informed service to every customer—creating a positive banking experience.

  • Educate clients on bank processes and available digital and self-service options.

  • Promptly escalate unresolved queries or concerns to the branch manager or team leader.

  • Promote a clean, organized, and professional teller station at all times.

  • Uphold the Absa brand image through compliance with corporate appearance and workspace policies.

Sales Support and Lead Generation:

  • Identify client needs during transactions and provide appropriate solutions or referrals.

  • Promote digital migration for transactions below R4000 and deposits below R8000.

  • Introduce clients to financial products and services by distributing informational materials and guiding them to sales consultants.

  • Log all potential sales leads and follow up to ensure successful client engagement.

  • Actively contribute to achieving the branch’s daily and monthly sales objectives.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Adhere strictly to cash handling protocols, limits, and risk procedures.

  • Report suspected fraud, unusual activity, and suspicious transactions in line with Anti-Money Laundering policies. Absa Junior Bank Teller 2025

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all operational and compliance procedures, including those related to the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) and the Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA).

  • Secure teller workstations, drawers, stamps, keys, and banking systems according to safety protocols.

  • Assist in periodic internal and external audits, including proper register management (e.g., key register, teller register).

  • Participate in training sessions to enhance understanding of fraud prevention, foreign exchange, and system upgrades.


Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • Grade 12 / FETC (NQF Level 4) in Business, Commerce, or a related field (compulsory)

  • Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Fluency in English and at least one other South African language

  • A customer-first attitude with a high level of integrity and accountability

  • Basic computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office
